Need of Varnashram
Imperialistic strategies of the British
The Two most astonishing thing for the British who invaded India were :
1) The Indian agriculture system.
2) The Indian gurukula system.
The Governor of British India - Robert Clive, made an extensive research on the agriculture system in India. The outcome of the research was as follows:-
1) Cows were the basis of Indian agriculture and agriculture in India cannot be executed without the help of cows.
2) To break the Backbone of Indian agriculture, cows had to be eliminated.
The first slaughterhouse in India was started in 1760, with a capacity to kill 30,000 (Thirty thousand only) per day, at least one crore cows were killed in an years time. He estimated that the number of cows in Bengal outnumbered the number of men. Similar was the situation in the rest of India.
As a part of the Master plan to destabilize the India, cow slaughter was initiated. Once the cows were slaughtered, then there was no manure and there was no insecticide like cow urine. Robert Clive started a number of slaughter houses before he left India.
A hypothesis to understand the position of Indian agriculture without slaughter houses:-
In 1740 in the Arcot District of Tamil Nadu, 54 Quintals of rice was harvested from one acre of land using simple manure and pesticides like cow urine and cow dung.
As a result of the 350 slaughterhouses which worked day and night by 1910. India was practically bereft of sufficient cows. India had to approach Englands doorstep for industrial manure. Thus industrial manure like urea and phosphate made way to India.
After India attained independence in the name of Green Revolution there was extensive use of industrial manure. Before British left India. The daily news paper Guardian interviewed India. To one of the questions Gandhiji answered, that the day India attains Independence, all the slaughter houses in India would be closed.
In 1929 Nehru in a public meeting stated that if he were to become the prime minister of India, the first thing he would do is to stop all the slaughterhouses.
The tragedy of the situation is since 1947 the number has increased from 350 to 36,000 (thirty six thousand) slaughter houses.
Today, the highly mechanized slaughterhouses all over the world are killing millions of cows annually. Any sane man can calculate the benefits and economic development through cow protection. In fact, vaishya (business) class of people in ancient civilizations simply florished by protecting cows. People from all over the world should start working in this direction - to own few cows and see yourself the benefit of protecting and nurturing the cows.
Furthermore, to break the Gurukula system in India British government also put the systematic endeavor.
The British rule had set one king against another; their strategy worked and they began to rule India. But, over time they realized that though they were now rulers, people of India were not really ruled by them. They were also not ruled by the kings; then who was ruling them? They were all ruled by Vedic scriptures and the Spiritual masters (the teachers who taught not only material arts and craft but also the sacred science of soul, God and Their relationship). The Spiritual teachers (Gurus) had their Institutes, where they taught arts and crafts along with spiritual knowldege. Thus India had 1,25,000 universities in the state of Madras in 1800, where the Gurus imparted knowledge. This education system was the major strength of India.
The British, then set out to discover what was at the base of the Indian strength. For this purpose they assigned an Englishman named Macalauy who reported as follows. In 1835, Lord Macaulay said, “I have traveled the length and breadth of the whole of India, and I have not seen one beggar. Such wealth I have seen in this country and high morals, that I do not think that you will ever be able to conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this country, which is their spiritual and cultural heritage.
And therefore I propose we replace her old ancient Indian education system to make them believe that ours is greater and superior to their own. They will lose their self-esteem and culture and they will become what we want them to become - a truly dominated nation.”
To conquer India the British destroyed the backbone of India i.e. the Indian Gurukul System of Education, by introducing the certificate system. In this way, they made people of India donkeys for the government system. It was their conspiracy to weaken India's spiritual culture and rule India by producing more and more ‘donkeys’ to work for them. The spiritual and cultural heritage was replaced with the English Government Certification System.
So, the authority of the Guru was lost, the base of service(seva) & surrender (pranipat) was lost.
Thus unfortunately, today the education system has become a means of acquiring a degree for the sake of survival, it is producing servants, not Gurus and leaders. The Guru- Shishya parampara appears to be lost. Now education is not for perfecting this human form of life, by understanding the purpose of life. It has been distorted to selfishness and attained for satisfying one’s own selfish aims of life.
Even a person done MBA or PhD will think for doing a job – like a high profile peon and goal of life will be just to satisfy the animalistic propensities in terms of eating, sleeping, mating and defending. The governments of every Nation now makes arrangement for such Asses to get facility for eating, sleeping, sex and defense and work very hard, without caring for understanding the goal of human life.
By mercy of His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada this demoniac system of education is being slowly replaced with real education rooted in the teachings of Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam and all the Vedic scriptures. The system of cow protection for prosperity is also reviving slowly but surely. The spiritual practices - esp. chanting of Hare Krishna and hearing Bhagavad-Gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, as set up by Srial Prabhupada are so potent that they create favorable environment for reviving the real Vedic culture.
Srila Prabhupada desired that Varnashram system should be revived in society to benefit the people in general. Through this Varnashram system both of these things namely ancient education system and the agricuture practices of ancient India can be revived. Of course the Varnashram system has to be centered around satisfying Krishna and not one's senses. We need to introduce as Srila Prabhupada said - Daivi Varnashram system and not the Asuric Varnashram.
In Srimad Bhagavatam Srila Prabhupada says, in relationship to forest of Naimisharnya "...the forest of Naimiñäraëya in the Varaha Purana, where it is stated that by performance of sacrifice at this place, the strength of demoniac people is curtailed." This means that even few people together sitting and chanting Hare Krishna creates the positive impact on the consciousness of all the people of world. If we don't have much intelligence about how to revive the Daivi Varnashram system atleast continue to Chant Hare Krishna and contribute to strengthen the devotees and curtail the strength of demoniac people. All glories to Sri Sankirtan movement - the prime benediction to humanity. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
