Precautions in Vastu

Precautions to be taken while construction of home/building :

Preventing from sharp piercing objects (Shalya) : All kinds of thorns or Shalya except silver and gold are harmful.  Gold, silver, gems etc. are considered as promoters of the strength and auspiciousness of the foundation.

The marma-sthana in Vastu-Mandal :  The nine points of intersection of the lines connecting Roga & Anila; Pitr and Shikhin; Shosha and Vitatha; Mukhya and Bhrsha; Jayanta and Bhrngaraja; Aditi and Sugriva are considered most Vulnerable parts.  The measure of the Vulnerable part is an eighth of a square.  Lines that run from east to west or north to south are called Shira or veins.
 
Gaurding Brahma-Sthanam : A house owner wishing for happiness should guard very carefully Brahma-Sthanam (nine squares in the center of the house).  For, the affliction of Brahma-Sthanam by dirty things like remnants of food, would harm the owner in it.
 
Broken limbs of Vastu Purusha : If the Vastu-Purusha is bereft of the right arm or some portion of it(which corresponds to upper SE portion), the owner will sustain loss of wealth and misery through women (or disgrace of women); if he is without the left arm (this corresponds to right portion of NW), loss of money & corn; if his head is absent(missing portion or cut in NE), the owner will fall from all the virtue; if his feet are missing (SW portion), faults of women (or troubles from women), death of sons and servitude will be the result.  On the other hand, if the Vastu-Purusha is endowed with all the limbs in fine shape, the occupants of the house will be blessed with honour, wealth and happiness.  See case study.
 
In the same manner the deities are situated in the different parts of communities, villages and towns as in the case of houses.  In these places also suitable parts should be allotted to Brahmanas and other classes. [ When planning a community, village or town similar sketch of Vastu-Mandal should be prepared and his limbs marked.  The vulnerable parts ought to be guarded there too.  People belonging to the four classes should be given house-sites in the appropriate directions in those places.]

South             -  fear of enemies
South-West     -  quarrel among (or with) women
West              -  frailty of women
North-West     -  poverty
North             -  increase of wealth
North-East      -  prosperity of children in order
